‘How to Forum’ on Homeless Action Week
The goal of this ‘How to Forum’ is to provide a sample of the types of neighbourhood initiatives that are currently under way, in order to generate ideas and interest for other neighbourhoods to organize similar projects and events to raise awareness about and find ways to address homelessness during Homeless Action Week.
The confirmed speakers are:
• Paula Carr, Collingwood Neighbourhood House and member of the Renfrew/Collingwood Homelessness Committee will speak about the Widening the Circle of Community project to create inclusivity in an evolving neighbourhood.
• Doug Taylor, Kitsilano Community Centre will discuss their shower program
• Sue Noga, Community Developer Metro Vancouver Regional Steering Committee on Homelessness will discuss Homeless Action Week projects she has helped coordinate across the Metro region.
• Katie Hume, VCH Community Developer and member of the Under One Umbrella Society (formerly known as the Grandview Woodlands Drug and Alcohol Coalition) will discuss the Under One Umbrella project that provides direct services to over 500 homeless people each winter in the Grandview Woodlands community.
Following the presentations, participants will be asked to break out into smaller groups to work with others from their neighbourhood and discuss the kinds of projects and events they might want to organize for Homeless Action Week 2009 or more generally in their communities.
Please join us Wednesday July 8th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Plaza 500 Hotel (500 W. 12th Avenue) for a ‘How to Forum’ to discuss neighbourhood-based solutions to homelessness.
Please RSVP by July 3rd by emailing [email protected] or calling 604.871.6848.
